OKC Memorial Marathon

13.1 in 2:07 and change. I ran conservatively, as bonking at mile ten was a fear of mine going in. The weather was cool at the onset and then warmed up an hour or so in to it. The course was full, so there was a lot of bobbing and weaving. Looking back, I would not have changed a thing. Solid run from start to finish. Next year I will get some long runs in and break two-hours. A couple of days of rest and then back to the streets. First event wearing headphones. Went with the tried and true Spartacus Redux mix for posterity's sake.

April 27, 2013

A nice Friday run of six and change. Cool weather with a pretty strong North wind with which to deal with on the way home. Sunday's weather should be nice, but one never really knows. Looking to finish at or before 2:15, which is a bit over a 10 minute pace. Not feeling very confident about this half, but with 15 hours to the damn gun, there is, simply put, not much I can do about it. I plan on starting super slow, maintaining a consistently slow pace and finishing strong. Will blaze the Spartacus Remix for Old Time's sake. Bring on the noise.

April 22, 2013

Hit the pavement after a week off due to a nasty head cold that sidelined me with congestion and an endless flow of snot.  Should not affect the 13.1 on tap for this Sunday morning.  I may be walking the last three, but we shall see.  Longest run since my injury of September 30, 2012 is...gulp...six and change, according to my records.  Did I say that I may be walking the last three?  Unconcerned, as I have plenty of miles on this frame and I am quite confident that, barring an injury, I could run 13 miles under most conditions.  OK, this Monday morning was a five and change affair covering familiar territory. Long-sleeves with shorts.  Pace was solid.  Felt heavy and bloated with clogged lungs and legs that seemed to weigh more than usual.  Stuck in an 80s kind of mind frame on the box.  Will try to get seven or so in on Wednesday, followed by an easy six on Friday.  Sunday will be interesting, for sure.  Bring on the noise.

April 15, 2013

Great Spring morning, except for the 20 mph North wind hitting me in the face on the way home. Out the door in shorts and long-sleeves. A decent five and change after blowing off Sunday's planned run due to too much on Saturday evening. Even the best laid plans turn to dust in the face of a couple of bottles of Merlot. Will attempt 9 this Saturday to see how things go with a little distance added to the equation. Blink on the box.

April 12, 2013

Blew off Thursday's run due to an obnoxious 20 degree wind chill factor. Chilly, rather than frigid, start to Friday. Shorts and long-sleeves with gloves. Temps in the high 30s with a slight breeze. Sore calf muscles post-run. Time for new shoes. Added some Talking Heads to the Spartacus Redux.

April 9, 2013

Back to the grind. Five and change in humid conditions. 9 minute pace. Tight early, but loosened up as things progressed. 20 days out from the OKC memorial marathon. 13.1 on the agenda. Should be interesting since my last long run was in September of 2012. I will try to get a 10 mile run in prior. Back to the Spartacus Mix.

April 7, 2013

Redbud Classic 10k. Weather was outstanding: temps in the mid 60s, overcast skies and a slight breeze. The Doctor and I finished in a respectable 56 and change, according to my unofficial results. Three weeks until the OKC Memorial. Good times.

April 5, 2013

Marine Layer Fog. Cool, bordering on almost cold. Four miles with a slow, deliberate pace. 10k Sunday at 1400. Expected temps in the mid-70s. Hoping I don't have a heat stroke. Can't remember my last afternoon run! Years, perhaps. Loop of Blink 182 on the box. Hoping to break an hour on Sunday.

April 3, 2013

The Rain Song. There is nothing like heading out for a run and being met with a torrential downpour. It rained from beginning to end and I enjoyed every minute of it. It was a chilly 35 degrees with a calm wind from the North. A slow and easy five miles to get the day started. More punk on the box.

March 27, 2013 and April 1, 2013

Honestly forgot the details of last Wednesday's run. Forgot to write the obligatory three sentence blurb after the run. Now there's too much water under the proverbial bridge to backtrack. Blew off Friday's run, then Saturday's and finally Sunday's! There's something to be said for consistency. This morning's run was a solid five-miles in relatively cool temps--45 degrees--with no wind with which to contend. Felt nice getting back on the road after a couple extra days of rest. Old School Punk on the box: Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, Angry Samoans, etc. Great way to start the day!
