April 8, 2018

1400 hrs. Red Bud Classic. Cold (45 degrees Fahrenheit, 7 degrees Celsius) with a strong wind out of the South. Layered up with shorts, long-sleeves, and a light-weight running jacket. Hit the trail with McKinnis leading the way and setting the pace; Al Pacino sat this one out, as his training wasn't where he wanted it to be. Solid work from beginning to end. The cool weather made for absolutely perfect running conditions. Completed the 6.21 miles in 58:30 for a 9:25 min/mile pace, which was a bit faster than my usual pace. Felt depleted afterwards; sore for a couple of days. Mahalo.

April 3, 2018

0600 hrs. Dawn Patrol. Campus Loop. Inaugurated the month of April with a 5k maintenance run through familiar environs. Warm, humid, and windy. Shorts and long-sleeves. Completed the 3.19 miles in 32:25 for a 10:09 min/mile pace. Bowel Related Issues (BRIs) made this run a potential disaster. Solid boundaries preclude this author from saying anything more. Finished March with 40 miles on 10 runs. Mahalo.

March 31, 2018

0730 hrs. Campus Loop. Cool and windy. Temp was a manageable 52 degrees Fahrenheit (11 degrees Celsius), but it felt a lot cooler with the strong South wind. Long-sleeves and shorts. No tunes on this one. Completed the 3.88 miles in 40:35 for a pedestrian 10:28 min/mile pace. Not bad for an Easter fast of 36-hours. Ten runs for the month. Mahalo.

Splits were consistent from beginning to end. Will look to double the route on Saturday. Mahalo.

March 1, 2018 (out of sequence)

0545 hrs. Dawn Patrol. Campus Loop. Hit the road to the waning vestiges of winter temps (32 degrees Fahrenheit, 0 degrees Celsius) and a negligible breeze from the North. March 14, 2018

0545 hrs. Dawn Patrol. Campus Loop. A sporadic running schedule continues. The Hash Bud Classic (10k) is but a mere 24 days away. Hit the trail with the temp right at freezing (32 degrees Fahrenheit, 0 degrees Celsius) with a slight North breeze. Felt slow and sluggish, which is to be expected, I suppose. Completed the 3.51 miles in a pedestrian 37:14 for a 10:36 min/mile average pace. Will have to double at some point this week to get to three runs. Mahalo.

Wednesday, March 7, 2018

March 6, 2018

0545 hrs. Dawn Patrol. Campus Loop. Cold-ish (36 degrees Fahrenheit, 2 degrees Celsius) with a fairly substantial North breeze. Layered up and hit the trail. Completed the 3.00 miles in a sub-sonic 30:42 minutes for a 10:14 min/mile average pace. Bowel Related Issues (BRIs) caused fleeting waves of panic and fear; however, I managed to make it home before anything serious transpired. Listen to your body--before, during, and after a run--is always good advice. Mahalo.

February 26, 2018

0545 hrs. Dawn Patrol. Campus Loop. Back in the game after a horrible, already discussed ankle sprain, which was followed up by a month off due to a minor eye surgery that kept me sidelined for most of February. I have gained 15 lbs and am rapidly approaching "Bloated Toad" status. Cleared by the doctor to resume physical activity, I'm back in the saddle again. Layered up and hit the cold trail (35 degrees Fahrenheit, 2 degrees Celsius) in the pre-dawn hours. Completed the 3.28 miles in a sub-sonic 35:34 for a 10:51 min/mile pace. Not my fastest work, but it did feel good to be out on the road again. Mahalo.

Thursday, January 25, 2018

January 25, 2018

0550 hrs. Dawn Patrol. Campus Loop. Frozen 30 degrees Fahrenheit (-1 degrees Celsius) with a slight breeze from the South. Slow and Low. Left ankle blues continue. Tight and a bit sore. Tuesday, January 23, 2018

January 23, 2018

0550 hrs. Dawn Patrol. Campus Loop. Back in the game after taking a month off due to a horribly sprained ankle that I suffered on December 27, 2017. Hit a hole in the street and before I knew it I was on the ground writhing in pain. Occupational hazard of running in the dark, I suppose. Feels good to be back at it. Headed out to frigid conditions (30 degrees Fahrenheit, -1 Celsius) with a slight breeze from the North. Completed the 3.33 miles in a sub-sonic 34:29 for a 10:22 min/mile pace. Ankle and knee were a bit tight and sore post-run. Will ease my way back into the groove. Mahalo.

Sunday, December 24, 2017

Completed the 7.39 miles in 1:13:08 for a 9:54 min/mile average pace. Skipped the mid-week run, so I only finished with eleven miles on two runs. Proud. Mahalo.

Layered up for this one. Broke with tradition and did not extend the route this morning. It was a solid maintenance run through familiar territory. Mahalo.

Tuesday, December 5, 2017

December 5, 2017

0545 hrs. Dawn Patrol. Campus Loop. Frozen: strong North wind made the 35 degrees Fahrenheit (2 degrees Celsius) feel like 27 degrees Fahrenheit (-3 Celsius). Layered up with dri-fits and a running jacket, along with the heavy gloves and mask. Definitely overkill, but it was nice and warm heading home with the Polar wind pounding me. Slow and Low was definitely the tempo. Completed the 3.37 miles in 34:41 for a 10:18 min/mile average pace. Mahalo.
