April 15, 2017

0700 hrs. Campus Loop. Back on the trail after taking the week off post-Red Bud Classic. Left hamstring was tight all week, so I opted to chill for a bit. Beautiful overcast morning with the temperature a manageable 60 degrees Fahrenheit (16 degrees Celsius). A steady breeze out of the South and a fair amount of humidity kept things interesting. Completed the 4.09 miles in 40:48 for a sub-sonic 9:59 min/mile pace. Felt slow and awkward. Finished the week with 10.42 miles on two runs. Mahalo.

April 9, 2017

Redbud Classic 10k. Back in the game with the Doctor after skipping last year's race. 1400 hrs. 80 degrees Fahrenheit, 27 degrees Celsius. Entirely too warm and bright for this early AM runner. Solid effort. Sweltering heat could not keep me down. Had a great run from start to finish and managed to break an hour, yet again. Per chip data, completed the winding, hilly 6.20 miles in 1:00.50 for a 9:48 min/mile pace. (Runkeeper data: 6.33 miles in 1:01:13 for a 9:30 pace.) Mahalo.

April 6, 2017

0545 hrs. Dawn Patrol. Campus Loop. A cold front blew through town last night, dropping the AM temp to 5 degrees Celsius (41 degrees Fahrenheit) with a steady breeze from the North. Layered up with shorts, long-sleeves, gloves and a soft-shell. It felt more like October than April. Uneventful maintenance run through familiar environs. Cut through campus again, which may become SOP as construction continues along the Eastern corridor. Completed the 3.28 miles in 33:13 for a 10:09 min/mile pace. Mahalo.

April 4, 2017

0545 hrs. Dawn Patrol. Campus Loop. BRIs notwithstanding, it was a very pleasant early AM run. The Fear began about one-mile from the shack. Made it back, but it could have been horrific. Hit the trail with a cool 11 degrees Celsius (52 degrees Fahrenheit) temp and a modest wind tracking from the North. No one out running in the AM as far as I can tell. Perhaps they get their fix a bit later in the morning. Completed the 3.29 miles in 32:19 for a blistering 9.50 min/mile pace. Shorts and long-sleeves rule the day. Solid effort. The build continue. Mahalo.

Saturday, April 1, 2017

April 1, 2017

0745 hrs. Daylight Run. Campus Loop. Another cool Spring morning: 50 degrees Fahrenheit (10 degrees Celsius) with a steady North breeze. Layered up with shorts and long-sleeves. Completed the 6.0 miles in 1:02:35 for a subsonic 10:26 min/mile pace. Ended the week with 12.32 miles. Solid. Mahalo.

March 28, 2017

Completed the 3.30 miles in 32:38 for a 9:54 min/mile average pace. Uneventful. Slowly getting my lungs and legs back. Mahalo.

Saturday, March 25, 2017

March 25, 2017

0800 hrs. Saturday morning run. Campus Loop. Temp was a cool 46 degrees Fahrenheit (8 degrees Celsius) with a serious 15-20 mph wind out of the South, which made it feel much cooler. Long-sleeves, shorts and a soft shell. Should have worn light gloves. Headed East down Main Street before heading South and weaving my way through the campus. Completed the 6.04 miles in 1:02:50 for a subsonic 10:24 min/mile pace. 12.70 miles for the week, and, more importantly, the first three-run week in a month. Mahalo.

Continuing to get my lungs and legs back after a decent respite and irregular schedule. Mahalo.

Tuesday, March 21, 2017

March 20, 2017

0630 hrs. Dawn Patrol. Campus Loop. Out the door at the appointed hour for an abridged maintenance run. Temp was a warm 64 degrees (18 degrees Celsius) with a slight breeze from the South. Long-sleeves and shorts. Slow and Low that is the Tempo. Right calf wanted to seize up and hobble me. Stopped and stretched, worked it out. It was sore for the rest of the day, but I should be good to go again in 48 hours. Completed the 3.34 miles in 35:23 for a sluggish 10:35 min/mile pace. Mahalo.

Saturday, March 18, 2017

March 17, 2017

Long-sleeves and shorts for this one. Another slow, methodical, almost groove-less run. Completed the 5.02 miles in 53:46 for an unspectacular 10:42 min/mile pace. Once again, looking for traction after a week of travels took me off schedule. Mahalo.

Monday, March 6, 2017

Shooting for 5-5-6 this coming week, which would double the eight miles I completed this week. Mahalo.

Tuesday, February 14, 2017

February 14, 2017

0545 hrs. Dawn Patrol. Campus Loop. Temps took a turn for the cold (6 degrees Celsius, 43 degrees Fahrenheit), while a slight North breeze kept things interesting. Shorts, long-sleeves, gloves and a soft shell for S and Gs. Completed the 3.37 mile abridged loop in a slowish 34:50 for a sub-sonic 10:21 min/mile pace. Building miles and adding time out on the trail as my comeback from sloth and inactivity continues. Mahalo.

Completed the 4.03 miles in 39:52 for a 9:54 min/mile pace. Two runs this week for a grand total of 6.40 miles. Will aim for three runs next week. Past personal experience suggests taking it easy and gradually building mileage is best practice. Mahalo.

Tuesday, February 7, 2017

February 7, 2017

0600 hrs. Dawn Patrol. Baby Steps. Back out on the trail for my fourth run in two months. This has been, for all intents and purposes, a self-imposed exile. Thousands of miles on the odometer since 1997 (that's 20 years for those of you scoring at home) leaves me acutely uninspired and unmotivated at times. This has been one of those times. No excuses. I was simply tired of the unrelenting grind for a minute. I have regained my composure and am ready to begin again...again. Completed a short 2.37 mile out and back in a pedestrian 23:31 for a 9:55 min/mile pace. Temp was 11 degrees Celsius (52 degrees Fahrenheit) with a slight breeze from the North. Will undoubtedly build miles to get back to my baseline. In the mean time, Mahalo.

Tuesday, January 17, 2017

January 17, 2017

0545 hrs. Dawn Patrol. Campus Loop. 32 degrees Fahrenheit, 0 degrees Celsius. A moderate wind out of the North for S and G's. Layered up like banshee with every intention to get a decent four-miler in the proverbial "books." Slow, sluggish and out of practice (3 runs since December 1st.) Solid effort nonetheless. Completed the 4.04 miles in a sub-sonic 42:15 for a 10:28 min/mile pace. Slow and Low that is the tempo...Mahalo.

Monday, January 9, 2017

January 9, 2017

0600 hrs. Dawn Patrol. Abridged Campus Loop. Back in the game after a month of rest and relaxation. First run of 2017. Hit the trail in the pre-dawn hours with temps in the low 20s (20 degrees Fahrenheit, -7 degrees Celsius) and a brutal, unforgiving wind out of the West. Felt good to be back out on the road. Finished the 2.35 miles in 24:36 for a sub-sonic 10:28 min/mile pace. Miles surely to increase, while the times should improve, as well. Mahalo.

Tuesday, December 6, 2016

December 6, 2016

0545 hrs. Dawn Patrol. Campus Loop. Frigid (31 degrees Fahrenheit, -.5 degrees Celsius) with a super-strong North wind that made the return leg of the run a bit uncomfortable. First run of December after taking a week off to wallow in the mire and drink Jameson like it was my job. Layered up like a fiend and felt over-dressed on the Southern portion of the run. Things got serious a couple of miles from the shack when I turned back North in a futile attempt to get back home unscathed. Completed the 4.00 miles in 39:23 for a chilly 9:51 min/mile pace. It's never too cold for a run. "But it's getting harder to describe sailors to the underfed..." Mahalo.

Layered up with tights, long-sleeves, running jacket, gloves and a soft shell. Extended the go-to route to the Southern Perimeter before heading back North through China Town and the University environs. Completed the 6.62 miles in 1:07:41 for a sub-sonic 10:13 min/mile average pace. Mahalo.

Tuesday, November 22, 2016

November 22, 2016

0600 hrs. Dawn Patrol. Campus Loop. Out the door after another long-weekend sans run. Hit the pavement to relatively cool temps (57 degrees Fahrenheit, 14 degrees Celsius) and a nice Southern breeze that kept things manageable. Another 4.05 miles completed in 39:14 for a sub-sonic 9:42 average pace. Yet again, the promise of cold weather (mid to low-30s) looms. Mahalo.

Absolutely beautiful Autumn run through familiar environs. Mahalo.
